Singer Lee Ahin is asking fans for feedback on some new bathing suit selfies. Ahin loves drinking tea, which not only provides a boost of energy but is full of antioxidants. "Natural substances, called polyphenols, are found in both caffeinated and herbal teas," says Barbara Gordon, RDN, LD. "These substances are antioxidants, compounds that may help reduce the risk of certain chronic diseases."
Ahin is a big fan of truffles on everything, calling it her favorite. "We've long known that mushrooms are good for you because of their bioactive compounds, and we're learning more about their benefits every day," says Joyce Prescott, RD. "There are so many varieties to enjoy in a wide variety of dishes, and we can also use them in many ways to supplement our diet and help keep us well."
Ahin loves spicy malatang soup, which is full of nutritious vegetables and protein. "We enjoy malatang when we are feeling happy or sad," she says. "I did not try it a lot when I was studying abroad in China, but ironically, I became fond of it after coming back to Korea. But I think malatang tastes quite similar in both countries."
Ahin plays the piano and keyboard, which research shows is beneficial for brain health. "Recent studies suggest that music may be a uniquely good form of exercising your brain," says John Dani, PhD, chair of Neuroscience at Penn's Perelman School of Medicine. "Fun can also be good for you."
Ahin loves animals, especially dogs. "Interacting with animals has been shown to decrease levels of cortisol (a stress-related hormone) and lower blood pressure," according to the National Institutes of Health. "Other studies have found that animals can reduce loneliness, increase feelings of social support, and boost your mood."
