Alicia Vikander covers the April issue of Harper’s Bazaar… for no real reason? I looked it up – she doesn’t have a film coming out this month or next. She’s got a film called Earthquake Bird coming out at some point, but IMDB just has the release date listed as “2019.” Maybe she was supposed to be promoting something specific, but it got pushed back or something. Or maybe she’s just promoting her general fashion contract with Louis Vuitton, which is entirely possible in this day and age. There is a lot of talk about fashion and Louis Vuitton in her interview, so maybe. Anyway, it’s been forever and a day since we’ve even talked about Alicia or heard any gossip about her. I remember hearing a rumor at one point last year that she was possibly pregnant, but I think we would have gotten something confirmed by now if that was the case, right? Hm. Some highlights from the interview:

On her appearance of self-confidence: “In this industry, you must be willing to throw yourself out there, which I enjoy. I’m good at hiding all those nerves inside. Something I’ve heard all my life is, ‘Oh, you seem so tough.’ I think one of the main things I do well is to not show that I’m sh–ing my pants.”

She’s always startled by her fame: “Every time I do press, I’m suddenly met with the reality of my fame. I sometimes forget how my life has changed.” When she was starting out, Vikander didn’t anticipate having a viable acting career, let alone becoming an international fashion plate. She was rejected from drama school three times (“part of me felt like I didn’t belong,” she confesses).

She’s living in Portugal full-time with Michael Fassbender: The A-list couple keep a deliberately low profile, residing in Lisbon, Portugal, where they relish languid early mornings filled with ocean dips and yoga. “I was brought up in a very cold, dark country, and Portugal is the opposite. My husband loves to surf, so we like being close to the sea.”

On being optimistic about the future for women in entertainment: “It’s sad that a lot of us women haven’t had the opportunity to work together because not enough women were being hired. Suddenly we found a way not only of reaching out and getting to know each other but forging relationships that lead to creative collaborations. I’m working on several projects right now with girls that I met over the past year. That in itself is wonderful proof that a big change has happened.”

On deleting Instagram after one month: “I realized early on that social media was not good for me; I personally didn’t find the joy in it.”

She didn’t grow up with money: “My mom was an actress, and we never had the money for things that weren’t purely functional. I remember when I bought my first magazine; it was a window into a world that seemed very far away from mine…. I did a lot of high street and secondhand shopping. I loved having someone ask me where I got something, and I would say, ‘I got it at H&M.’ ”

She went through a hip-hop fashion phase: “In my teens, I went through a full-on hip-hop period. I would wear huge hoop earrings, baggy trousers, and this reversible velvet Adidas jacket that I spent a lot of money on because I thought it was an investment piece at the time. I’m not going to show you photos of that!”

The deleting the Instagram thing… she’s the second actress to talk about tappin’ out of social media just this year, it feels like. The first was Michelle Williams. I understand how someone can just delete their Instagram and never look back. I only ever check IG to look at my favorite tennis players at this point, and I haven’t posted anything in months! But I still scratch my social media itch with Twitter. What do people do without Twitter? That’s what I don’t understand.

As for the rest of it…I mean, she goes on and on about her style and how she prefers to keep it really simple with her clothes and then she just likes to accessorize like crazy, but… where are those photos? Because whenever we do see photos of her, she always looks like she’s not wearing any makeup, and she’s usually wearing some really tragic or underwhelming LV. I understand why an actress would do a fashion-mag cover to promote their fashion contract, but I guess try to actually be fashionable?
