Extra police will be out in force around a regional NSW town in a bid to catch the predator believed to have sexually assaulted two young women in the area.

The first incident took place at about 11pm on Friday, when a 19-year-old woman was walking north along Bourke Street in Goulburn and was approached by a man she didn’t know.

After walking a short distance towards the intersection of Addison and Bourke Streets, the man grabbed the woman and threw her to the ground, before she was punched several times to the face and she lost consciousness and was sexually assaulted.

The woman regained consciousness and ran to a nearby home.

She flagged down a passing motorist for assistance, who took her to Goulburn Police Station to make a report.

The woman suffered facial injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Detective Superintendent Jayne Doherty said police believe the attack may have been linked to a similar incident on nearby Blackshaw Road on April 5.

“The girl was then sexually assaulted before the male fled along Bourke Street,” Doherty said. “She reported the matter and was later taken to Goulburn hospital for treatment for facial injuries”.

Police have been told an 18-year-old woman was walking along Blackshaw Road about 10.30pm on the Wednesday before Easter when she was approached and punched in the face by a stranger.

She fell to the ground where the man continued to assault her, however, she managed to break free and ran towards Park Road.

The teenager was later taken to hospital for treatment after suffering facial injuries.

Superintendent Doherty said the man involved in each incident “was not overly aggressive” in his approach which allowed him to get closer to the women.

“He was talking to the women, and then he’s become suddenly aggressive, which is why they’ve been caught off guard and knocked to the ground,” she said.

Extra patrols have been put on in Goulburn for Wednesday night to ensure the safety of the community.

The man is described as being of caucasian appearance, aged in his late 30s to early 40s, about 180cm tall, with a solid build, and a scruffy beard.

Detectives have released CCTV vision from Friday, April 14, of a man who may be able to assist with their inquiries.
