Rising star Khalid made his daytime television debut on Tuesday afternoon.
The 19-year-old, who recently won MTV’s “Woodie to Watch” award, took The Ellen Show stage with his song “Location.” Khalid’s silky vocals and smooth moves impressed the crowd, as well as host Ellen DeGeneres herself. “You’re awesome,” she told the teenage crooner. DeGeneres also gave her audience a free copy of Khalid’s debut album American Teen.
It’s been a great week for the up-and-coming artist. Following his talk show performance, he not only broke Spotify’s Top 100 artist list with 10.9 million monthly listeners, “Location” entered the Top 25 on the Billboard Hot 100.
“I almost didn’t record [“Location”] because literally I was so tired after the studio session that I was like no, I’m going to give up, but I was like I gotta finish writing this,” he recently shared with the publication. “It’s kind of insane to think about.”
