A savvy mum has shared her “genius” DIY project which she designed to hide a common kitchen eyesore from sight.

Priya Davidson told news.com.au she transformed her marble-topped hallway bench, from Kmart, into a multi-use trash station for her garbage and recycling bins.

The process worked so well, she even replicated it for a pet food station later on.

Posting her photos of her final result to a Kmart Facebook group over the weekend, Priya said she had repurposed her $49 marble table after deciding she was sick of seeing her ugly bins sitting out in her kitchen.

Priya realised her marble topped hall table, released in Kmart to viral acclaim last year, would be the perfect start to solving her garbage bin dilemma.

All she needed next was a few MDF panels and some a few rolls of Kmart’s $3 vinyl adhesive contact to create her “elegant trash station”.

According to Priya, her trash station now “accommodates recycling, rubbish, compost and bin bags”.

“No more eyesore as I do not like bins in cabinets. Thanks Kmart,” Priya said.

The final result was nothing short of spectacular, showing a sleek nook to tuck her bins away neatly.

Beside the recycling and garbage bins sits an in-built shelf, built with a series of cheap MDF panels, cut to size.

Both sides of the cabinet, as well as the base, have been covered in white woodgrain vinyl contact.

Using some smaller panels, Priya also built three shelves into her side cabinet, in which she could store her compost bin, fresh bin liners, and antibacterial wipes for kitchen cleanups.

For the handy stickers on each bin, Priya cut costs even further by printing them herself.

“I printed myself, then laminated them and stuck on with tape,” she said.

“I have two little boys who used to get confused and it is good for guests”.

Priya even included a hand drawn design of her station “to show how it is done”.

“Measure your pieces for better fit after assembling your hall table,” she wrote.

“Also, check that bins fit underneath and across and most importantly, it is practical for you to use them.”

The post quickly became popular, racking up more than 1.6k likes and hundreds of comments from people describing Priya’s handiwork as “bloody brilliant”.

“Now this is a hack! Well done!” one woman wrote.

Another fan wrote: “You are a genius!”

As if the trash station wasn’t clever enough, Priya also revealed to fans she had used the same hack, with a cheaper Kmart table, to built a customised pet food station.
