The Louisiana State University baseball team, LSU heads into the 2023 CWS with an impressive conference record of 48 wins and 15 losses.

Under the guidance of head coach Jay Johnson, the Tigers made it look easy in the Baton Rouge Super Regional bracket beating Tulane Green, Oregon State, and Kentucky Wildcats in the finals.

The grand arena is now prepared for the highly anticipated World Series tournament, where they will engage in an epic clash against the Hattiesburg Super Regional victors, the Tennessee Volunteers.

If LSU wins at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha on Monday, they will move forward to the next round. In the second round, they will compete against the winner of Game 3, which could be either Stanford or Wake Forest.

However, if the Tigers fail to win against the Volunteers, they will have one more chance to reach Round 2. The Game 3 loser and Game 4 loser will go head to head on June 19, 2023.

The semi-final games of the College World Series will be held on June 21, and if LSU secures the win in that game, they will go through to the Finals. They will face one of four teams from Bracket 1, which could be either TCU or Oral Roberts or Virginia, or the Florida Gators.

The finals of Men's CWS will be played in the best of three formats from June 24 to 26 at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, and the winner will be crowned NCAA Division I college baseball champion.

CWS Announcers For 2023

LSU baseball announcers and broadcasters are:

  • Mike Monaco
  • Karl Ravech

American sportscaster Karl Ravech has been the play-by-play voice for ESPN at the CSW for a decade. He joined the broadcasting crew in 2014, replacing Mike Patrick.

Ravech's relationship with ESPN dates back to 1993 when he first joined the network in his late 20s. He has mainly appeared on shows like SportsCenter and Baseball Tonight.

Since 2006, Ravech has provided commentary for ESPN and ABC's coverage of the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. He has also covered events like the College World Series, golf, college basketball, and ESPN's KBO League coverage in 2020.

Karl will be the main announcer for Game 1 of the 2023 CWS in a game between Oral Roberts and TCU on June 16 and reprise his role with Mike for Game 4, where the Tigers will take on Tennessee.

The 30-year-old Cohasset, Massachusetts native Mike Monaco will also voice side by side with Karl for the 2023 College World Series. The duo first paired up in 2022, and ESPN decided to continue their dynamic chemistry for this season as well.

Monaco started working for ESPN in 2019 after spending two years at Fox Sports and the Big Ten Network. During that time, he became the alternate television play-by-play announcer for the Boston Red Sox.

Moreover, Mike has also lent his voice to several sports league games of Chicago-based franchises, such as the Chicago Blackhawks in the NHL, Chicago Bulls in the NBA, and Chicago White Sox in the MLB.

Other games announcers for the 2023 CWS include:

  • Tom Hart

LSU Baseball Starting Lineup in Omaha

The probable LSU Baseball Starting lineup for the CWS matchup in Omaha is:

  • 20 Paul Skenes - Pitcher [P]
  • 16 Brady Neal - Catcher [C]
  • 22 Jared Jones - First Baseman [1B]
  • 8 Gavin Dugas - Second Baseman [2B]
  • 47 Tommy White - Third Baseman [3B]
  • 4 Jordan Thompson - Shortstop [SS]
  • 18 Tre' Morgan - Left Field [LF]
  • 28 Paxton Kling - Right Field [RF]
  • 3 Dylan Crews - Center Field [CF]

This possible lineup is based on the Tigers' recent performance and their opponents' strengths. LSU has the two best players expected to be chosen early in the upcoming amateur draft.

Dylan Crews, the junior center fielder, is predicted to be the number one pick. He has an impressive batting average of .434 for the season, which is the highest among all players in the College World Series.

On the other hand, pitcher Paul Skenes, a switch-hitter, has made an outstanding 188 strikeouts, the most since 2011. He is getting close to breaking the SEC record set by LSU alumnus Ben McDonald in 1989, who had 202 strikeouts.

Besides, Brady Neal, who is in his first year, can be predicted to be in the catcher role, while Jared Jones will be in the first baseman position.

Left-handed hitter Gavin Dugas and sophomore Tommy White might start the game to cover the second and third base.

Jordan Thompson is a strong defensive shortstop with a high probability of featuring in the game. Freshman Gavin Guidry, another shortstop, might come off the bench to replace Jordan.

Meanwhile, Brayden Jobert, a Delgrade Community College graduate, could be a game-changer as he takes on the Designated Hitter(DH) role.
