Peak hour on one of the NSW Central Coast’s busiest highways has been thrown into chaos after two trucks were set ablaze this morning.
Emergency services were called to the Pacific Hwy at Verges Creek, east of Kempsey, about 4.30am after reports three V-Double trucks had collided.
When emergency crews arrived they found two trucks parked on the arterial highway on fire.
A NSW Fire and Rescue spokesperson said firefighters had battle for more than two hours to contain the blaze.
Supported by the NSW Rural Fire Service, firefighters used power saws to cut into the trucks to ensure the load was not alight.
While the fires had since been extinguished, the Pacific Hwy remained closed northbound as crews entered into “recovery” mode.
“Right now, we are looking at hazardous materials, including the large amount of fuel these truck carry,” the spokesperson said.
Southbound traffic was also disrupted and being diverted through Kempsey, according to Live Traffic NSW.
A NSW Police spokesperson said one driver had been transported to hospital with minor injuries.
It is believed the two drivers were outside of the vehicles when the fires erupted.
