Although he is now going through the best period of his professional career, the truth is that Pedro Pascal has not had it easy.

After he was born, his parents took him as a baby to Denmark because his socialist family was forced to go into exile by the Pinochet dictatorship. Then, they ended up settling in Texas.

Later, he had to overcome, among other things, bullying at school or the suicide of his mother Veronica, in 2000. That was one of the moments that marked him the most in his life. So much so that it led him to take Pascal as his first surname, leaving his father's surname, Balmaceda, in second place.

"The circumstances of my mother's death made it very hard for us to keep her memory as the person she was," he told the Paula magazine some time ago.

"It hurts so much. Sometimes I feel anguished and I try to deal with it the best way I can, because I know my mother wouldn't want me to do otherwise.

"She was the love of my life. I think about her every day. Since I don't pray, I can't say I have a practice of feeling her close, but I live for her even though she's gone. That makes sense to me."

His father's scandal and his sister's figure

Meanwhile, during those turbulent years, Pedro's father, Jose Balmaceda, was affected by a scandal at the assisted reproduction clinic where he worked in 1995. He was accused, together with other colleagues, of stealing women's eggs.

After the death of a baby, protests from mothers, and up to 70 complaints, the clinic was closed and everyone was accused of fraud.

So Jose and his wife fled with their children to Chile. Pedro and his sister Javiera remained in New York to study. It was there that Pedro trained as an actor, at the Tisch School of the Arts.

"My older sister is the world to me," Pedro even said in his interviews in the early 2000s. To this day, the 'Game of Thrones' actor still believes in his father's innocence.

Arrival in Madrid and take-off as an actor

After his mother's suicide in 2000, Pascal had enough acting training to take risks and seek opportunities. After appearing in the series 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' (1997-2003), in the following years he traveled to Madrid, where he began his adventure in nightlife as a go-go boy.

Later on, his acting career was more about working in the independent scene, and it wasn't until he met Sarah Paulson, who was a friend of 'Game of Thrones' showrunners, when he got his first big acting opportunity, almost at the age of 40.

In 'Game of Thrones', Pascal played Oberyn Martell before participating in 'The Good Wife', 'Law and Order', 'The Mentalist', 'Narcos', 'Wonder Woman 1984' and 'Kingsman'.

Today he triumphs as Joel Miller in popular series 'The Last of Us', and it is believed that he is already working on a role for Marvel Studios.
