Rimmer was born on February 3, 1986, in Southport, England. He was formerly a member of Southport Waterloo AC before switching to rivals Liverpool Pembroke Sefton, where he currently competes. He also joined Christ The King Catholic High School, where he set multiple school mile records in Southport’s Victoria Park. Michael had previously been a Liverpool John Moores University sports scholar. At the 2006 European Athletics Championships in Gothenburz, he placed eighth in the 800-meter final, and second in his first European Cup in Munich in 2007. He is the first individual male athlete to win the national championships in the 800 m at the under-15, under-17, under-20, and senior levels in British history.
